"Life Skills"
Going back in my memory bank......when someone said the words, "life skills" it was related to skills that we needed to acquire and retain in order to succeed in life. Succeeding was about the ability to make all of your dreams come true.
Today it is imperative for every female to acquire and retain "life skills" beyond those to assist us in making our dreams come true. I am talking about.............."self-defense", "safety skills", "personal safety". Yes, I did. I typed "those words". No one, especially females like the words "self-defense" and here is why.
You must first understand that "self-defense" is not martial arts training. It is not fighting, it's not about obtaining physical skills or taking a course and then to forget until God forbid you need it. "Self-defense" is not one skill - it's "part" of "life skills". Although many feel that learning self-defense is empowering - in actuality it's about how to effectively and quickly end an attack with minimum damage to yourself.
Peyton Quinn puts a different perspective on things in his book, "Freedom from Fear", "Self-defense is the art of dealing with predators - exploitive, hostile or abusive people. As we have seen they can be found in any sphere of our lives; in the streets, in the office, at home and even in intimate relations. Consequently when I use the term "self-defense" I am not just talking about defending yourself against a person who wants to beat you up, kill, rob or rape you. Even so, do not dismiss the reality that you may be forced to deal with physical violence."
There is so much more to "self-defense", "safety skills" and "personal safety" than just the physical technique. Knowledge is a powerful tool!
Things that make you go "hmmmmmmmm". Make it a safe and great day!
Take care and STAY SAFE!
